Cristiano Ronaldo’s late penalty cancelled out Lionel Messi’s 53rd-minute spot-kick as the two sides shared the spoils in what was the first of four El Clásico clashes in the space of 17 days.
Messi coolly converted his spot-kick to put his side in front and net his 49th goal of the season after Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol was sent off hauling down David Villa.
But Madrid drew level eight minutes from time when Ronaldo fired home his penalty after Marcelo was adjudged to have been fouled by Victor Valdés.
